The stamp duty thresholds in England will be lowered from the 1st April 2025, and the rate at which properties will be exempt from stamp duty will drop a £125,000 from £425,000 to £300,000 confirmed in the Autumn Budget. First-time buyers in higher priced areas of England are bound to be more affected as data reveals that 8% of homes in London, 24% in the South East & 32% in East of England will be stamp duty free for first-time buyers from April. Analysis from Rightmove highlights, that there is a rush for first-time buyers to beat the stamp duty deadline, due to first-time buyers avoiding paying higher charges in these high demand areas since the budget. Before the announcement of the Autumn Budget, the demand in first-time buyers was 28% ahead of last year and is +31% ahead now in London. Homes widely below the £300,000 threshold are less likely to have an impact on the rising stamp duty. Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s property expert, stated: “With stamp duty thresholds in England lowering from April, we’re seeing early signs of first-time buyers reacting.
